Strata: enterprise SaaS brand identity

Every layer, working as one.

The brief

Strata is an enterprise SaaS platform. It sits between the systems a large organisation already runs and brings them into one coordinated environment: software platforms, data sources, departments, and the workflows that cross all of them. The product does not replace those parts. It makes them move together.

That gave the enterprise SaaS brand identity a precise job. Platforms in this category tend to explain integration with diagrams as tangled as the problem they solve. Strata needed the opposite: an identity that makes a complicated promise feel calm, and that an operations lead, a technical buyer and a finance team can each read in a few seconds. Integration had to come across with clarity rather than complexity.

The idea

Every engagement starts by finding the one idea at the centre. For Strata it was five words: every layer, working as one.

The line describes the product, and it sets a rule for the design. An enterprise is made of layers that were never built to work with each other. Strata’s value is that each layer keeps its own purpose while all of them share one direction. So the identity could not show a merger, a knot or a single solid block. It had to show separate parts that stay separate and still read as one thing.

The symbol is that sentence, drawn. Five horizontal layers sit one above the other. Each is a distinct form, standing for an independent part of the enterprise, and each is cut to the same angle and points the same way. Seen together, the five resolve into a quiet letter S. Nothing was added to make the S appear. It comes out of the structure, which is why the mark holds at the size of an app icon and at the size of a conference wall.

The system

Symbol and wordmark are built from one modular unit. The gap between the layers, the weight of each bar and the distance to the wordmark all derive from it, so the lockup can be rebuilt at any size without a judgement call. The wordmark is set in open, even letterforms that sit beside the symbol without competing with it.

Colour

STRATA Blue leads. It stands for intelligence, connection and forward movement, and it is saturated enough to own a screen. A near-black navy brings authority and technical depth, and a deeper blue extends the range. White does a large share of the work: generous space is what makes an integration platform feel ordered.

Typography

Type follows the same discipline as the mark: strong alignment, architectural spacing and a clear hierarchy of information. Headlines are large and plain. Supporting text is kept short, so a page reads in the order the company wants it read.

Graphic language

The layered logic extends well past the logo. Modular grids, structured layouts, connected pathways, directional compositions and controlled repetition give the brand a pattern language for the places where the logo is absent. We wrote the principle down as complexity, organised into movement: bars that step, shift and align, the way separate systems fall into sequence once something coordinates them.

In use, the system covers the places where an enterprise buyer meets a platform: the product interface, the website, event stands, sales material and the objects a team carries. Each application is assembled from the same parts, so the tenth touchpoint looks as considered as the first.

Scope

We carried Strata from strategy to a working system: the positioning idea, the logo and symbol, the visual identity, and the layout system that keeps every page and screen in line. The result gives a B2B technology platform one clear way to talk about system integration, workflow automation, operational visibility, scale and control.
